Due to their unique properties—such as large specific surface area, high porosity, high surface-to-volume ratio, and stable structure—inorganic nanofibers are used in a variety of applications. These include fuel cells, catalysts, photocatalysts, thermal insulators, sorbents, thermal barrier layers, and filtration and purification devices.

These include Li-ion battery anodes and cathodes, separators for Li-ion batteries or fuel cells, catalysts, photocatalysts, smoke detectors, thermal insulators, metal or ceramic nanocomposites, dehumidifiers, abrasives, thermal barrier coatings, filtration systems, and more.
